WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
WEBSITE BACKUPS
At Guy Designs we want to ensure that your website and associated data is safe. To ensure this, we have a multi-tier backup policy in place.
We use JetBackup as our primary backup system, with backups stored across independent storage layers and retained on daily, weekly, and monthly schedules.
BACKUP SYSTEM
JetBackup is the main backup and restore system available through cPanel. It allows available backups to be restored or downloaded from the JetBackup area of your hosting account.
BACKUP LAYERS
Layer 1
Offline backup storage
Daily and weekly JetBackup snapshots are stored in separate offline backup storage.
Layer 2
S3-compatible cloud object storage
Weekly and monthly JetBackup snapshots are also stored in independent S3-compatible cloud object storage.
RETENTION PERIODS
ACCESSING BACKUPS
You can access available JetBackup restore and download options from the JetBackup section in cPanel.
ADDITIONAL FULL CPANEL BACKUPS
In addition to JetBackup, we also keep three monthly full cPanel account backups in S3-compatible cloud object storage. These are separate from JetBackup and are retained as an additional disaster recovery layer in case there is ever a problem with the primary backup system.
These full cPanel backups are managed by Guy Designs and are not restored directly through the JetBackup interface.
SHOULD I STILL TAKE MY OWN BACKUPS?
Absolutely. As seriously as we take disaster recovery, we should not be your only form of data recovery for your website. We encourage you to take regular backups of your own website, and store these separate to your hosting account with us.
We can assist with plugins for WordPress that will automate this task for you, placing a backup of your website in a secure external location on a regular schedule.
